As far as flights go, they weren't too bad, as Malaysian Airlines has good planes and excellent service. KL is also a nice clean airport, and at that time of the morning, quiet too. On the flight Cinthia did not get as drunk as the Vanuatu trip, but did wee her pants! She refutes this version of events, stating "I was squating not to sit on the toilet seat, the plane hit turbulence, and some drops fell on my pants!" Classy....and this is my travel companion for 3 months!
Cinthia also took 2 sleeping pills however couldn't sleep, and was very relieved upon landing. She worries a lot about planes (that she is on) falling out of the sky..... but they didn't. Always a good start to a holiday I find.
Upon arriving there was no guide to pick us up, so we panicked for a few minutes until someone showed up running and holding a piece of paper with our names on it. Nice chinese girl, nice car with a crazy driver. Chongwenmen hotel. We went for a short walk to pick up the Beijing vibe. We proceeded to have dinner at a shopping centre where no one spoke English at the restaurant, so we had to point at the menu and luckily chose great dishes.
We paid the bill and left the change as a tip, but the waitress came running after us with the money in her hands begging us to take it back, she looked stressed... apparently they can't accept tips?? Cultural lesson #1.
