Finally we are moving again, after the normally precise Dausche Bahn railway was anything but. Spending half a day in Hannover sounds quite nice, except when it is stuck on a train, which is going nowehere fast.
We were due in Utrecht at 9.30am, however it now is likely we won't be arriving there before 4.30pm.
I'm not quite sure the exact reason for delay, other than the train conductor saying it was due to a combination of a thunderstorm, a 2nd train that was scheduled to join to this train breaking down, and an accident on the track.
It is lucky we don't have much planned for Utrecht today, otherwise we would both be pretty mad with the situation. Perhaps we will be reimbursed account this major delay, we can certainly try. My parents are also arriving in Utrecht today, however it is likely they will be jetlagged, and hence we have not planned anything.
Shortly after arriving at the hotel, my parents came knocking at the hotel door. Was nice to see some familiar faces, after a month of strangers. We proceeded into Utrecht central for dinner and a walk around. To Cinthia and my surprise, the old town area of Utrecht was quite lovely, certainly nicer than we expected.
The main cathedral was huge and impressive, and luckily wasn't bombed during the war, and it really stands out as the centre of the city. Mum and dad quickly got used to the answer to "Where's Cinthia?"- "Oh, she stopped to take some photos".
Dinner on the canal waterfront was lovely, for we chose a Turkish restaurant, which was quick nice, and started on Dutch beers- this time Bavaria.
